FESTIVAL RULES (2024)
1.    Entries should be made by the teacher or nominated person only.  
2.    All payments must be received within 7 days of entry submission.  
3.    Entries will open on Monday 13th November 2023. 
4.    The age of the competitor will be taken as at the 1st September 2023.
Entry into the incorrect age group may lead to disqualification. The age of the eldest member determines the age category for duet, trios and quartets. 
5.    All competitors must be covered by a BOPA licence issued by Medway Council. Parents and chaperones are required to sign competitors in and out of the festival each day. 
6.    Boys and any male relatives over the age of 6 are not permitted to enter any girls changing areas. 
7.    Competitors may enter in more than one genre. Each dance will require a separate entry fee.  
8.    The Festival is for amateurs. For the purposes of this Festival, an amateur is one who is considered not to: a) derive his/her main income from performing dance; b) be undertaking a full-time further education in dance; c) be attending a full-time dance or theatre school/college.  
9.    The organisers reserve the right to split, combine or withdraw any classes or sections.  
10.    The maximum time limit must not be exceeded under any circumstances. Time will be counted from the opening of the performance.  This applies to all genres and sections.  
11.    Pre-recorded music used in any song and dance section must not include any singing or chanting on the track. Pre-recorded music in tap sections must not use any recorded tap or similar effect.   
12.    Competitors may wear costumes and make up.  
13.    Pointe work is not allowed for any competitor under the age of 13 years.  14.    More than one duet, trio or quartets with the same partners in the same sections are only permitted if the dance is of a different genre. For example, the same partners are able to enter a ballet duet and a character duet, but not two ballet duets.  
15.    Acrobatic work is not allowed but gymnastic dance is permitted provided that it is combined with a modern dance technique. 
16.    All competitors entering the festival will be awarded a certificate and a written report. A gold, silver and bronze medal will be awarded in each section. 
17.    If the sections are combined age groups, then it is at the adjudicators discretion whether to award separate adjudication.   
18.    The adjudicator’s decision is final, and no further correspondence may be entered into.  
19.    Music must be provided on a high quality CD-R with only the relevant track on that disc. The CD must be labelled with the competitors name(s), class and title. Please ensure you have a spare copy! CDs should be handed into the music collection point in advance of the section. 
20.    If a dance has a title or synopsis, please ensure these are clearly written and handed in with the CD. 
21.    Competitors over the age of 12 years are not permitted to re-dance unless authorised by the committee and/or adjudicator. 
22.    Competitors should be ready to report for their section at least 15 mins prior to its commencement. 
23.    Competitors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or a licensed chaperone at all times whilst on the school grounds. 
24.    All fees are non-refundable. 
25.    Photography and video recording is strictly prohibited in the auditorium. Please could we ask all teachers and parents to take special care when taking photographs of their children in any other areas and avoid other competitors appearing in the background.  
26.    The Festival has the rights to use images of the competitors during the competition. The images may be published by the Festival in reports of the event and in promotional materials which are published by the Medway and Swale Festivals in a variety of formats.

NOVICE CLASSES
NOVICE CLASSES ARE FOR COMPETITORS WHO HAVE NEVER PLACED IN AN OPEN CLASS IN THEIR CHOSEN GENRE. YOU MAY ONLY ENTER THAT PARTICULAR SOLO IN EITHER A NOVICE CLASS OR AN OPEN CLASS, NOT IN BOTH. FOR EXAMPLE, IF ENTERING A MODERN SOLO IN THE NOVICE CLASS, AN ENTRY INTO AN OPEN MODERN CLASS IS NOT PERMITTED. ONCE A COMPETITOR HAS PLACED 1ST IN A NOVICE CLASS, THEY WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO ENTER THAT SOLO (GENRE) AS A NOVICE AND MUST ENTER IT INTO THE OPEN CLASSES. PLEASE NOTE THAT SONG & DANCE IS LISTED SEPARATELY ON THE 
ONLINE ENTRY FORM DUE IT’S EXTRA TIME LIMIT ALLOWANCE. IT IS NOT A SEPARATE SECTION AND WILL BE COMBINED WITH LYRICAL, MODERN AND TAP IN THE CABARET SECTION.
